Impairment suspected in fatal car accident in Colorado

Losing control of a vehicle can be scary, and in the time, it takes to figure out what's happening and take steps to steer back on the path, a crash may be close. A recent head-on car accident in Colorado left one person with severe injuries and killed another.

Agents of the law say they went to the scene of a burning crash on a recent Tuesday night after hearing about it. A review of the accident showed that it happened when the driver of a car going south lost control and went into the lanes of cars going north. The vehicle reportedly crashed through concrete barriers before colliding head-on with a northbound van, resulting in severe injuries. The vehicle went off the road because of the accident, and the van suddenly caught on fire.

Police say that the driver of the van passed away at the scene of the crash shortly thereafter. They also advised that the driver who caused the crash was transported to a medical facility with critical injuries. While the crash remains under investigation, police also assert that impairment may have been a contributing factor.
