Losing control of a vehicle can be a scary experience and in the time it takes to realize what is going on and take steps to steer back on course, the threat of a collision may be close at hand. In some cases, a driver may have little to no time to react to such a scenario before disaster strikes and the resulting collision could place the well-being of everyone involved in harm’s way. A recent head-on car accident has left one person with severe injuries and claimed the life of another in Colorado.
Law enforcement agents say they responded to reports of a fiery crash on a recent Tuesday evening. An investigation into the accident indicated that it took place when the driver of a southbound car lost control and veered into oncoming lanes. The car reportedly crashed through concrete barriers before colliding head-on with a northbound van and the initial impact forced the car to slide off the road and caused the van to suddenly erupt in flames.
Police say that the driver of the van passed away at the scene of the crash shortly thereafter. They also advised that the driver who caused the crash was transported to a medical facility with critical injuries. While the crash remains under investigation, police also assert that impairment may have been a contributing factor.
Suffering the untimely loss of someone close in a car accident due to the actions of an impaired driver can be difficult to accept. Following such loss, the victim’s surviving family members could choose to obtain legal counsel for guidance on the next steps to take to seek accountability in civil court. This type of advice could help a person in Colorado become better prepared to pursue the full amount of restitution deserved through a wrongful death claim.
